Finding opportunities to get two things for the price of one.

Today we are learning :

  • A low-risk, high-reward strategy that’s simple and bear-proof of hunting airdrops.
  • Prospective strategies to use.

A combination of on-chain freelance employment and recreational airdrop hunting, airdrop hunting is popular among the modern degen. Web3’s frontiers offer the most prospective opportunity to “double up” on airdrops efficiently at this point in time.

Doing one thing to get in line for two different token distributions is what I’m referring about here.

Here’s where to begin searching for these opportunities:

The best way to find a promising Ethereum L2 project that hasn’t released a token yet is to look for one that promises to do so in the future, as in the instance of Optimism.

Use apps on these L2s that haven’t released native tokens yet and find out what they’re like.

There are no assurances when it comes to employing this method. Some L2s and apps never provide their own tokens, thus you may end up wasting your time trying them out!

More than a few “double dip” airdrops are likely at this early stage of the L2 ecosystem’s development. Taking the right steps now will pay off in the long run.

When it comes to token-less apps, you may want to check out various candidate L2s so that if any of those projects + rollups do do retro token releases to early users, you’ll be one of those participants.

Optimism, zkSync, and arbitrum look to be low-hanging fruit as far as the L2s to explicitly target are concerned.

While we’ve heard about many rounds of airdrops for OP tokens from Optimism, we’ve also heard about plans for the zkSync tokens. The Arbitrum team has remained silent on token rumors, but it appears that a token for community coordination is on the verge of being released.

In order to use these L2s, we’ll need to select apps that don’t have a token currently. Let me show you some examples of projects that suit the bill.

PRO TIP — Bridges are Key

Many L2-centric bridge projects have not yet launched their tokens, which is understandable.

Earlier this year, Hop introduced HOP. Multiple bridges are likely to perform retro-distributions in the months to come in order to maintain liquidity.

There are some bridges that may eventually release their tokens that you can try:

  • Bungee — supports Arbitrum, Optimism, and other L1 EVMs
  • DeBridge — supports Arbitrum and other L1 EVMs
  • Mosaic by Composable Finance — supports Arbitrum and other L1 EVMs
  • Orbiter Finance — supports zkSync, Arbitrum, Optimism, and other L1 EVMs
  • Transferto.xzy by LI.FI — supports Arbitrum, Optimism, and other L1 EVMs

You should utilize these projects with caution, especially Orbiter Finance, that hasn’t been audited.

Bridges like this one offer the most obvious “double up” airdrop prospects for the time being, however.

Other Non-token-based L2 initiatives

Beyond bridges, there are also a number of token-less DeFi, NFT, and wallet projects on L2s that you can try:

Argent

Argent is an Ethereum and zkSync L2 mobile social recovery wallet. Aave, Lido and Yearn are all included in Argent’s chosen L2 DeFi investment options.

These integrations will help you if Argent performs a retro token distribution and presumably the zkSync token.

Potential strategies:

  • Use zkSync on Argent to lend DAI or USDC on Aave
  • Use zkSync on Argent to stake ETH on Lido
  • Use zkSync on Argent to invest ETH, DAI, USDC, or WBTC into Yearn

Cozy Finance

People can construct automated DeFi protection markets using Cozy Finance, an open-source insurance-like protocol.

Arbitrum support was introduced earlier this year, however the project is still token-less. Cozy’s supply, borrowing or investment may effect your chances of receiving COZY + ARBI tokens in the future.

N.B- Cosy is not available for people in the US . See NORD VPN wink*

Potential strategies:

  • Use the Protected Investing feature on Cozy
  • Deposit funds to provide protection on Cozy
  • Borrow funds on Cozy

DeFi Saver

A personal on-chain command center, DeFi Saver is a cutting-edge DeFi management platform.

Using the token-free project, you can test out popular DeFi activities to see how transactions will operate. Project L2 just added support for arbitrum and optimism, but the team has not said whether or not it expects to airdrop a token for those two coins. That option exists, however remote it may be.

Potential strategies:

  • Make a swap through DeFi Saver while on Arbitrum or Optimism.
  • Use the Aave integration on DeFi Saver while on Arbitrum or Optimism.

Quixotic

Optimism’s largest NFT marketplace is currently Quixotic.

It may one day decide to introduce a token like other NFT marketplaces, such as SuperRare and RARE, which have already done so. It is therefore possible that investing in and selling NFTs now could help you “double up” on a Quixotic token in the future (should this happen) and in future OP airdrop phases.

Potential strategies:

  • Buy NFTs on Quixotic
  • Sell NFTs on Quixotic

Yield Protocol

A fixed-rate loan and borrowing protocol, Yield Protocol, was implemented in March 2022 for Arbitrum.

According to Yield Protocol’s FAQ, a token is expected “in the long future.” This indicates that a token is in the works. Yield Protocol is a project to keep an eye on in the meanwhile, regardless of whether that token is created on Arbitrum or Ethereum.

Potential strategies:

  • Lend on Yield Protocol’s Arbitrum deployment
  • Borrow on Yield Protocol’s Arbitrum deployment
  • Provide liquidity on Yield Protocol’s Arbitrum deployment

Action steps
